                                                           HASU 蓮

The Japanese word for the lotus flower is hasu 蓮 and it means purity of soul. This flower is born in darkness and mud: it comes to the surface clean, opens when hit by the sun's rays and closes again when darkness comes. It symbolises rebirth in a world contaminated by impurities. A sacred flower for Buddhism and Hinduism, it represents the integrity of the body, speech and spiritual elevation.
